Kids’ cold relief age guide

Find out what’s safe to give your kids when they have a cough or runny nose.

0-2 years old

For a runny nose:

  • Use saline nasal dropsto loosen mucus.
  • Suction to remove mucus.

For coughs:

  • 5-15 mL of warm, clear liquids 4x day.

2-4 years old

For a runny nose:

  • Use a saline nasal spray or drops.
  • Sleep near a clean, cool-mist humidifier.

For coughs:

  • Drink warm water with ½ teaspoon honey.
  • Elevating their head may help them sleep.

4-11 years old

For a runny nose:

  • Warm tea or chicken noodle soup can increase mucus flow.

For coughs:

  • Gargle with warm salt water.
  • Eat frozen treats.
  • Cough drops are OK with supervision.
