Helping to provide relief to Central African Republic

One in seven children in the Central African Republic (CAR) die before their 5th birthday. This is one of many results of the country’s ongoing civil war, which has led to a complex humanitarian crisis since 2012. Internal conflict has uprooted most health care workers and destroyed health facilities, leaving half of the population in need of humanitarian assistance, including more than 1 million children. Violence and widespread displacement have made children in this area most vulnerable to health risks and diseases such as measles.

In 2016, through a nationwide campaign in partnership with the United Nations Foundation’s Shot@Life campaign, Walgreens helped provide 1.5 million vaccines to children to help protect against the spread of measles in CAR.
