Because children in East Timor miss out on routine immuinzations, they face recurrent outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases like measles.
Walgreens contributed to
Shot@Life which helped support a 2015 East Timor measles campaign. The campaign
was led by
the Ministry of Health with major support from Ministry of Education, Ministry
of State Administration in partnership with WHO, and the Measles & Rubella
Initiative in East Timor. Taking place in all schools and in every aldeia (neighborhood)
throughout the country, the campaign provided the necessary training
for healthcare workers, improved the vaccine cold chain efforts to deliver
routine vaccinations and raised community awareness on the importance of
vaccination.
Campaigns like the one in East
Timor support strengthened immunization services for years to come, which will
improve child health, reduce preventable sickness and build a strong
healthy nation for the future.
